Week 9: The Spirit’s Conviction

Key Lesson: The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment.

John 16:8-11 says,
"And when He comes, He will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see Me no longer; concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged."
The Holy Spirit works in the hearts of people, revealing their need for Christ and drawing them to salvation.

Story of the Disciples Learning Week 9

On the day of Pentecost, Peter preached a powerful sermon to the crowd, declaring, "This Jesus, whom you crucified, God has made both Lord and Christ" (Acts 2:36). The people were cut to the heart and asked, "What shall we do?"

Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 2:38).

Later, the disciples reflected on what had happened. James, the son of Zebedee, said, "It was the Spirit who convicted their hearts. Without Him, they wouldn’t have responded."

John added, "The Spirit’s conviction is the first step toward salvation. He reveals our need for Jesus."

Andrew, ever practical, said, "We need to rely on the Spirit when we share the gospel. He’s the one who changes hearts."

Philip, who had been preaching in Samaria, shared, "I’ve seen the Spirit’s conviction at work. People who were once resistant are now turning to Christ."

Bartholomew, known for his honesty, admitted, "I’ve struggled to share the gospel boldly, but the Spirit gives me courage."

Thomas, who had doubted but now believed, said, "I’ve felt the Spirit’s conviction in my own life. He’s real, and He’s powerful."

Matthew, the former tax collector, added, "The Spirit’s conviction is about truth. He reveals sin and points us to Jesus."

Simon the Zealot, who had once been a political revolutionary, said, "The Spirit’s conviction brings transformation. It’s how people come to faith."

As the disciples reflected on Peter’s sermon, they realized the importance of relying on the Spirit’s conviction when sharing the gospel.
